WE GOTTA HAVE PEACE

Tuesday, July 20th, 2010

Was watching a documentary on the struggle over in Afghanistan last night. Seeing the emotion, fear and utter horror the people over there go through on a daily basis (both Afghans and our boys) I thought this video was quite apt. Increase the peace people, stop fighting!

RUNNING PUNCH MUSIC CLUB – DEBUT ALBUM

Friday, July 9th, 2010

The daily routine of your average music lover has transformed beyond recognition over the past few years. The explosion of the Internet has replaced dusty record shops, and crate digging there in, with web page after web page affording instant access to The Next Big Thing. Genre’s are forever invented and twisted in pursuit of the fabled blog buzz, with artists happy to adjust their output from week to week to appease the hungry A and R surfers.

This, however, is not everyone’s sentiment. ‘Just make music for yourself and if other people like it, well that’s cool too’ –the words of producer Sherlock Bones who, with Captain Bukioe, makes up Running Punch; a welcome alternative to the current hip hop coming out the UK scene.

With foundations in the landscape of pure and iconic UK hip hop synonymous with a generation’s youth, Bones and Bukioe are under no illusions as to who their intended audience is. UK hip-hop is fast becoming a forgotten sound in its classic form, and as such heads have either been left with tracks heard hundreds of times to get their fix or putting up with emerging artists drenched in the stigma of rap stereotypes.

Publish or Perish effortlessly accomplishes the ruse of sounding both brand new yet familiar at once. From the instant link to the classic popular ‘hip-hop’ sounds of The Message, through to an ode to common sense in A Sweet Minute, the style of Bones and Bukioe best described as well crafted to any listener. Also, in times when confrontation is the topic of choice for most of the scene, Bukioe’s philosophical contemplations come resonantly fresh…

I started so I’ll finish
I just need to leave it before a sweet minute
Before I greet the scene and sink my teeth deep in it
My limit reached? Never
Just need to breath and look before I leap in it

The art of storytelling is alive and well throughout Publish or Perish, both in composition and verse. Bones’s production combines classic breaks on a platter of unearthed samples to catch the ear of any hip hop head, yet with a unique signature to his sound. Unlike most MC’s in the UK limelight, speaking of a lifestyle foreign to the common man, Bukioe’s verses have a conversational flow and recall subject matter familiar till the end and allowing association.

With Publish or Perish listeners can expect an intricate artistic package, from the 16 track album through to packaging (illustrated by Bukioe), A3 poster and stickers alike. It’s out now – click to preview it and buy it!

DEFINITELY MARY – ART EXHIBITION

Wednesday, July 7th, 2010

Our extremely talented and very good friend Mary is currently holding an exhibition of her latest work in Lewes throughout July and then in Brighton in August. Everyone’s invited to come and browse through the array of canvasses and small pieces on offer, it’s well worth a visit!

“ Nothing is a mistake in my art. Nothing is planned, it just flows from pen to paper”.(Mary Allen)

This is artist Mary Allen’s philosophy on the way she looks at and produces her work. As a small child, Mary would always sit down with a pencil and a piece of paper to characterise the world around her.

While growing up Mary travelled the world drawing upon different countries and cultures gaining an abundance of influences, the most profound of these would be from the Asian continents. For example, Japanese Art with it’s classic style, depicting unique fine lined detail, portraying a sense of simplicity, quirkiness and dramatics.

Mary Graduated from Monash University in Melbourne Australia as a Bachelor Of Arts in graphic design, whilst here she found the works of Keith Haring, Alphonse Mucha as well as the satirical comic strips of Charles Schultz, subject matter that also helped her to develop her unique style.

This is Mary’s debut exhibition, a small collection of pieces including illustrations and canvases. She would like to invite you to come and see for yourself her depiction of the world which is……….. Definitely Mary!!!

NETSKY ALBUM LAUNCH PARTY TONIGHT!

Wednesday, June 16th, 2010

So here it is, the debut album launch party from drum + bass’s hottest property. Not since the explosion onto the scene of High Contrast way back in 2001 have we witnessed an artist rise to prominence so quickly.

Fresh, euphoric and unique the album delivers the full spectrum of the Netsky sound. Big vocal cuts like “Escape” featuring Darrison) and “Moving With You” (featuring Jenna G) provide two instant D+B classics. There are massive instrumental bangers “Iron Heart” and “Secret Agent” contrasted with the haunting deeper moments of “Let’s Leave Tomorrow” and “Storm Clouds”. Clean cut, high quality dancefloor music, perfect for staying up all night to.

So come down for this special one off party back at Audio where Hospitality Brighton first kicked off nearly 6 years ago. Nice people, happy vibes and killer bass rumbling out of ‘that’ soundsystem until it starts getting light outside. They’ll also be giving away a free Addict tee to the first 15 people through the door! Click here for tickets…
